Also having an evaluation done for treatment on his diagnosis determining if he needed medication or other treatment. The last recommendation is spirituality play, helping him with dealing with his problems.

Round Robin Scenairo: Strategic Decision

1. Did the completion of the exercise help you understand the concept?

After completing the exercise it help me understand that as the case manager of my round robins I'm just someone who is there to guide the client. It is a strategic decision on how I am going to help the client. I didn't want to do everything for the client or make the decision for the client so I mainly asked the client how would like to handle the situation. Also,I understand who owns the problems and see how much the client can handle the situation before I can jump in to help. This will create the client to have self-determination and independence.

2. How hard was it to answer the questions or respond to the scenario's?

It was difficult to answer the questions because I couldn't just tell the client what to do even if I know the solution. Also I thought it was difficult because of little knowledge that I have about services and resources that will have someone who is visually impaired. I thought the most easy thing about answering the questions was telling the client to continue with receiving the support that that client already had and encourage the client to accept the supports given.

3. How hard was it to give feedback?

Giving feedback to me was a great experience. I like that my other group member included the help from services in the community such as counseling services and having the client go to support groups that have the same situation as the client.

4. Rate your own answers

I rate my own answers as 80%

5. Rate your ability to give feedback

I rate my ability to give feedback 90%

6. Discuss the importance of what you have learned.

I have learned it's important that the case manager don't solve the client's problem. The client own his/her problem and that if the client solve his/her problem, the client will gain self determination and independence. It's also important of being carefully of how far the case manager will get involved. The decision is base on the helper's knowledge and on the opportunity that can be use to help the client grow. Even if you see all your clients as helpless, the best way to help the client is to help the client help themselve.

These are the four resources I chose on understanding boundaries,

http://www.counselingconsulting.org/articles/understanding-boundaries.html

http://www.healthcentral.com/depression/therapy-2625-143.html

http://kspope.com/ethics/boundaries.php

http://kspope.com/dual/Gutheil.php

Each website states something difference about boundaries. The first once focused on the good and bad of boundaries. What is good boundaries and what is bad. Also gave good example of each. The second one focused more on therapists violating client's boundaries and their practices on an ethical base. The third and four focused on sexual misconduct and the understanding of boundaries in the helping profession. All four combine make good accurate understand but I feel that the first website was missing a few things. It focused more on relationships and personal space instead of focusing on the client and helper. Each website taught me something new about boundaries and giving me example to look for in crossing boundaries and transference and countertransference. Most importance on boundaries are never to have sexual contact with a client.

Three Levels of Intervention Scenario #4 Exercise

Exercise #4:
Chris is a single father who is truing to work and raise three small children. His wife was killed 2 years ago in a traffic accident. After the inital shock and outpouring if support from friends and neighbors. Chris found himself alone with all the responisiblities and very unsure of himself. He would like to meet other men who have the same problems but cannot find any groups, even though he has been told about servaral men who are in the same situation. He tells you he is not sure what the best method is for disciplining his children, whom he describes as "good kids," Sometimes he feels he is too lenient with them, and at other times he is afraid he is unnecessarily strict with them. A local women;s health center has groups for bereaved single parents, but Chris believes thse would not be open to him. "It would e all women, wouldn't it?" he asks. In addition, he is having a hard time at work balancing the responsibilities there with parenting responsibilities at home. "Of course, I want to do good job and get the promotions so I can support these kids through college, but I need to be home in the evening, or someone does, and I don't think that is always well received at work."

Intervention on the micro level: Chris is a single father with three small children. He's wants to know if there are groups for men with the same problems he has. As his case manager, I would tell him to continue asking around to see if there are groups for men with the same situations as his and to attend any group meeting that he thinks will be good for him. Also, letting Chris know that case manager will work with him step by step for the support.

Interventions on the mezzo level: Chris has support from friends and neighbors, I would encourage him to continue receiving those supports. His children is also a motivation for him, I would tell him to keep a positive outlook at things even if he's in a hard situation right now. I would looked into services that can help Chris with babysitting so that he can go to work and not worry. Encourage him to go or call for more information from the Health center to see if he can attend the meetings . Also, tell Chris he can start his own single men's groups and he can advocate on how they can help other who are facing with the same problems.

Interventions on the macro level: If the micro and mezzo interventions doesn't work, I would suggest Chris go to see a counselor. It can be that he's too stress to focus on another or needed someone to listen to his problems. Seeing a counselor can also help Chris in finding treatments to help him if he becomes stress or starts to burnout. Will also let Chris know that I will continue to work with him to figure out what would help him best.
